The Wise County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving an alert from the Kentucky State Police regarding a stolen vehicle. The WCSO said Deputy Dale Gross observed a vehicle matching the description on U.S. Route 23 in the Pound area that fled at a high rate of speed.
The WCSO said the pursuit continued south over several miles including through Norton. The driver turned near the Hoot Owl Hollow intersection near Norton, striking two WCSO vehicles, then continued to flee north on U.S. Route 23 back toward Pound.
The WCSO said speeds approached 100 mph. As the vehicle approached the Glamorgan intersection with 23 near Wise, a deputy pulled in front to stop the vehicle as a Virginia State Police cruiser pinned it in place from the rear.
The driver was identified as 30-year-old Erika Nicole Lucas, 5686 Robinson Creek Road, Shelbiana, Ky. She was transported to Norton Community Hospital with minor injuries. The WCSO said one state trooper received minor injuries, and three WCSO vehicles and two VSP vehicles were damaged.
The Norton and Wise police departments assisted in the pursuit.
“I would like to thank everyone that assisted in stopping the driver.
